Hard Rock Casino in Dominican Republic apologizes & removes “Hindu Pizza” after Hindu protest

Anmarí Pérez, Customer Care Manager of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana, in an email to distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, who spearheaded the protest, wrote: “We sincerely apologize and addressed the issue immediately.” “Hindu Pizza” has now reportedly been removed from both restaurant and online menus and all other materials.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement in Nevada today, thanked Orlando (Florida) headquartered Hard Rock International ((HRI), whose tagline is “Love All, Serve All”, for understanding the concerns of Hindu community which thought it was highly insensitive.

Rajan Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, had termed it as a trivialization of the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.1 billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought.

Zed had pointed out that Hindus were mostly vegetarian and selling a meat topped pizza in their name was highly inappropriate. No faith, larger or smaller, should be taken frivolously and mishandled for mercantile greed, Zed added.

Rajan Zed suggests that HRI and other companies should send their senior executives for training in religious and cultural sensitivity so that they have an understanding of the feelings of customers and communities when introducing new products or launching advertising campaigns.

“Hindu Pizza” was available at the Pizzeto restaurant (in HRI’s largest property located in Punta Cana) which opens daily from 12pm to next day 7am and has a “Dress Code”.

HRI, whose history goes back to 1971; owns-operates restaurants, hotels, live performance venues and casinos globally and sells collectible fashion and music-related merchandise. It claims: “no one does hospitality like us” and it recently launched “Rock Om”; “an in-room yoga experience, energizing the body and soul through the power of music.” It delivers “Rock Om yoga kit” to each hotel room free of charge. Select HRI hotels also reportedly offer live, on-site yoga classes.

Mother Dairy Bestowed with “Quality Mark” Certificate

The certification is awarded based on an assessment of dairy processing units conducted by a consortium of an expert panel from DAHDF, FSSAI, NDDB, Managing Directors of four Federations representing the regions and two dairy experts, under the aegis of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).

RBI takes the first step to bank use of crypto currencies in India

Hindus push for Diwali holiday in Texas’ Frisco School District

Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that Diwali holiday in FISD would be a step in the positive direction in view of presence of a substantial number of Hindu students in the District; as it was important to meet the religious and spiritual needs of these pupils.

 

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that FISD should seriously and speedily work towards declaring Diwali (which falls on November seven in 2018) as a holiday, thus recognizing the intersection of spirituality and education. Zed noted that awareness about other religions thus created by such holidays like Diwali would make FISD students well-nurtured, well-balanced, and enlightened citizens of tomorrow.

 

Diwali fell on October 19 in 2017 and six New York school districts declared holiday for students on October 19, which included: East Meadow School District, East Williston Union Free School District, Half Hollow Hills Central School District, Herricks Union Free School District, Hicksville Union Free School District and Syosset Central School District. Mineola Union Free School District announced that no home work or examinations would be given on Diwali, reports suggest.

 

For 2017 in New Jersey; Glen Rock Public Schools announced closure of schools and offices on Diwali; in West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District, schools were closed on October 19; and in Piscataway Township Schools, there was “No School for Students” on Diwali. And recently Millburn Township Public Schools announced Diwali day off for students for the next three years and Edison Township Public Schools proclaimed “no school for students” for Diwali in 2018, reports add.

 

In 2017 Unionville-Chadds Ford School District headquartered in Kennett Square in Pennsylvania approved closure of schools on Diwali; while Harvard Public Schools in Massachusetts declared October 19 as “early release day”. Recently, Council Rock School District in Newtown (Pennsylvania), approved Diwali as an official school holiday in its 2018-2019 calendar, reports note.

 

Rajan Zed further said that it was important for Hindu families to celebrate Diwali day together at home with their children. Closing schools on Diwali would ensure that and would also display how respectful and accommodating FISD was to their faith.

 

Zed indicates that Hinduism is rich in festivals and religious festivals are very dear and sacred to Hindus. Diwali, the festival of lights, aims at dispelling the darkness and lighting up the lives and symbolizes the victory of good over evil.

 

Hinduism is oldest and third largest religion of the world with about 1.1 billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal. There are about three million Hindus in USA.

However, we witnessed a complete nosedive in the late afternoon after some fresh worries arising on the global trade war. Eventually, a sustained selling resulted into a sharp cut of more than a percent from its previous close.

 

At one point in the morning, the Nifty was trading well above the higher boundary (10250) of ‘Falling Channel’. Obviously, the daily close was essential to fulfill requirements; but, looking at the intraday momentum, a possibility of this relief rally getting extended was quite high. But, as always market surprises, once again some negative developments on the global front spooked traders to liquidate their recent positions. For the coming session, the immediate hurdle is placed in the zone of 10187 – 10230; whereas, on the downside, last Wednesday’s low of 10096would be seen as a crucial support. Any sustainable move below this would reinforce selling pressure to test 10049 – 10000 levels.

 

However, if we take a close look of top 6 – 7 heavyweight constituents, it does not indicate immediate correction from current levels. Hence, in case, if this correction extends, this would probably once again be a weak attempt of fall. Considering all these uncertainties, traders are advised to stay light and ideally should continue to follow stock specific approach.”

Cricket Legend Mohammad Kaif and Ramesh Powar announced the launch of Gujarat Premier League 2018

The ex-cricketers shared that they will be featuring in the inaugural edition, which will be played in Surat, Ahmadabad & Rajkot from 28th May to 10th June 2018. 

GPL is aimed at promoting Gujarat's cricket talent and giving an opportunity to the local players by bringing in national and international cricketers. It is an initiative by  Dharmang S Dalal, Director, Luxuryminds Entertainment who accompanied the cricketer at the announcement Press Conference held on 3rd April 2018 at The Gateway Hotel Athwalines Surat.
