Spectra selects Nokia for major broadband service expansion across regions of India

·         State-of-art GPON and IP Transport network will allow Spectra to offer affordable and high quality fixed broadband services to the residential and enterprise
·         Spectra’s 1 Gbps unlimited broadband offer is a first for Bengaluru

1st March 2018

India - Spectra has selected Nokia's IP/MPLS routing and GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) fiber solutions to build out its network to meet customer demand for high-performance broadband services. Spectra will be the first ISP in Bengaluru to offer 1 Gbps services with unlimited bandwidth at a competitive price for both residential and enterprise customers.

Spectra is one of the fastest growing Indian ISPs and its aggressive broadband offer is changing the competitive landscape in Bengaluru. Its customers, many of whom are demanding more bandwidth, are being offered a ‘step jump’ in bandwidth, service quality and reach, at very competitive price points. This has significantly changed how broadband is consumed in the region, contributing to the Indian government’s goal of making India one of the top ten countries worldwide for broadband. A testament to this is the fact that Spectra continues to lead the Netflix ISP Speed Index for India over other legacy providers.

Spectra is aiming to provide broadband networks to key metro markets in India to meet data-driven demand for services like video streaming. The Nokia IP/MPLS solution will provide an IP aggregation, Edge and core network based on the 7210 Service Access Switch (SAS) and 7750 Service Router (SR) for the network roll-out in Bengaluru. The Nokia Network Services Platform (NSP) will handle end-to-end service provisioning and network assurance that will ensure high quality while lowering operational costs for Spectra.

Nokia is also providing its 7360 ISAM FX GPON solution to provide faster broadband speeds to customers and create the network foundation essential for future ultra-broadband services.  The enhanced fiber network will allow Spectra to address the emerging ultra-broadband needs of its customers and deliver best-in-class services

Udit Mehrotra, CEO and Managing Director, Spectra said: “We are pleased to partner with Nokia to strengthen our network of high bandwidth broadband services for business and home customers. We are working hard to ensure our offerings and expertise in ultra-high speed broadband access and transport continue to improve the quality of internet consumption in India and support the country’s future digital innovations”

Vinish Bawa, head of Customer Team, Emerging Business for Nokia India, said: “Spectra’s choice of the Nokia routing and broadband access solution is the beginning of a great partnership. We plan to work closely with our customer to help them provide a level of service assurance and manageability that will make their offer affordable while taking bandwidth to a whole new level for their subscribers.”

10500 retested on global uncertainty: Angel Broking

“Today, the benchmark indices opened gap down as the US markets corrected after the new Fed Chief hinted towards the probable three hikes in interest rates going forward. This certainly had a rub-off effect on Asian markets and we were no exception to this. The Nifty index registered low of 10461.55 in few minutes post opening and then consolidated for the entire trading session to end the day tad below the 10500 mark.

Yesterday’s corrective move from the resistance of 10640 got extended in today’s session as the Nifty went on to sneak below the 10500 mark on a closing basis. If we observe the recent past, it is seen that the Nifty has consolidated in a broad range of 10300-10640, which can be termed as a time-wise correction. Thus, last two day’s correction is a part of this consolidation phase and in such scenario, one should ideally avoid trading aggressively. Although Nifty has closed below the 10500 mark, it has formed a ‘Doji’ candlestick pattern on the daily chart. Considering this, the short term range for the Nifty is at 10450-10640. Short term traders are advised to trade with a stock specific approach and follow proper risk management.

In our previous article, we had highlighted about the ‘Nifty PSU Bank’ index approaching the support of 2928. The individual stocks within this sector witnessed a good pullback move as we saw PSU Bank index rebounding from a kissing distance of this important junction. Thus, a retracement of the recent fall could be seen in stocks within this sector in next couple of days.”

It Pays to Perform. Top Performers to get 15.4% Average Salary Increase

New Delhi, Tues 27 Feb 2018 – Aon, a leading global professional services firm providing a broad range of risk, retirement and health solutions, today released the 22nd edition of its annual Salary Increase Survey in India. The study, the largest and the most comprehensive of its kind in India, analysed data across 1000+ companies from more than 20 industries.

As per the survey, companies in India gave an average pay increase of 9.3% during 2017 marking a departure from the double digit increments given by organizations since the inception of this study. The projections for 2018 are also expected to be similar at 9.4% highlighting increasing prudence and maturity being displayed by companies while finalising pay budgets.

The focus on performance is getting sharper year-on-year. A top performer is getting an average salary increase of 15.4%, approximately 1.9 times the pay increase for an average performer. Moreover, the bell curve is sharpening with a significant drop in the percentage of people in the highest rating.

Anandorup Ghose, Partner at Aon India Consulting, commented, “Despite an improvement in macro-economic forecasts - salary increases remain at the same level as was projected in the last fiscal. With increasing maturity, HR budgets are being realigned towards top performers as opposed to the broader population.”

Sectors such as Professional Services, Consumer Internet Companies, Life Sciences, Automotive and Consumer Products continue to project a double digit salary increase for 2018. Consumer Internet Companies however, over the past 3 years have seen a significant drop of 250 basis points, from 12.9% to 10.4% projected for 2018. Interestingly, the Hi Tech/ Information Technology sector, which has gone through a spate of upheavals in recent times, is projecting an average hike of 9.5% in 2018, whereas the third party IT services which provide majority of the employment in India are projecting an average hike of 6.2%.

Over the years, with increasing pressure on compensation budgets, there is an emerging focus on rationalization of budgets. Companies are increasingly taking into account the base effect e.g., pay increases for top and senior management is consistently going down.

Anandorup Ghose commented, “Pay increases are becoming more nuanced. We are increasingly seeing a multitude of factors impacting salary increases such as size of the company, business dynamics within the sub industry, nature of talent requirements and quite obviously, performance.”

The attrition rate in India is seeing a continuous downward trend as the overall attrition has come down from an average of 20% in the previous decade to 15.9% in 2017.

Cycle Pure Agarbathies releases a hard hitting film on Kaveri ordeal

NewsPatrolling.com (Media partnered with Niryas.com & Webeesocial.com) :Cycle Pure Agarbathies, from NR Group, the agarbathi to aerospace conglomerate, launched a film in association with Reforest India on the day Supreme Court passed the Kaveri verdict.  Cycle Pure through this film hopes to change the age-old conflict into a story of peace and hope by saving the river goddess, Kaveri and by protecting and planting forests. The film provides local solution to the global problem of water crisis.
Commenting on this Arjun Ranga, Managing Director, Cycle Pure Agarbathies said, “The film portrays the river in her true form, a divine being who descended on earth to save her children from a demon who brought drought. We wanted to rekindle people’s reverence towards the mother goddess, Kaveri”.

The task of the film is profound in its simplicity. “Bring back the forests. Bring back the rains. Let Kaveri flow” is a timely reminder to re-establish the lost connection between forests and water. The film is available in three languages – Kannada, Kodava and Tamizh.

“We think water come from dams, canals and tanks. Water comes from forests. Only Forests make rain and store freshwater that feeds streams and rivers. We need to seed the soil, not seed the clouds. This will ensure that our future generations will continue to drink water from Kaveri, and for that matter, every other river”, says Vinod Eshwer, the writer who conceptualised the film, and trustee of Reforest India.

“Each one of us can be a part of the solution. We all can plant a tree. And help reforest India. One tree at a time.” says Janet Yegneswaran, President, Reforest India.

“The black and white treatment was chosen because it brings alive a part mythological, part real story, in a divine yet dystopian manner” says Ayappa, the director of the film.

Watch the awe inspiring film in any of the three languages spoken by the people in the regions, as the river flows.

Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Government of Canada, blesses partnership of ISIC with IC-IMPACTS and Rick Hansen Institute for a Landmark Initiative Promoting Spinal Injury Care in India

Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Government of Canada, graced the launch of the initiative at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC).
·         ISIC has signed a 1-year pact Rick Hansen Institute, and IC-IMPACTS, to promote innovation and research in the field of spinal cord injury care.
·         The unique initiative aims to launch a competition to attract collaboration between researchers in Indian and Canadian universities for developing promising innovations and furthering the treatment of spinal cord injury patients in India.
February 26th, 2018|New Delhi. With a unique initiative, the leading treatment and rehabilitation provider for spinal cord injuries in India, the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC), has announced collaboration with Rick Hansen Institute (RHI) and IC-IMPACTS (India-Canada Centre for Innovative Multidisciplinary Partnerships to Accelerate Community Transformation and Sustainability) to launch a one of a kind competition that will further spinal injuries patient care in India like never before.
To formalize the initiative, Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of  Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Government of Canada, graced the launch of the competition at the Indian Spinal Injuries Center, and was joined by Major HPS Ahluwalia, Chairman, ISIC and Dr. H S Chhabra, Medical Director and Chief of Spine Services, ISIC.
Collaboration is incredibly important to the scientific process. But we know research partnerships are that much richer when scientists work with expert partners, like the Rick Hansen Institute and Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, who can inform their discovery process. Today’s agreement and call for creative thinking to help people living with spinal cord injury is examples of the important work Canadian scientists are doing to help people with disabilities participate fully in society both in Canada and in India”, said  Hon’ble Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, Government of Canada.
To further spinal cord injury treatment and research in India, the three internationally renowned organizations have come together by launching a competition that will attract researchers and institutions from Canada and India to work towards a common goal of finding better avenues to drive best results in the treatment of spinal injuries patients.

“ISIC has formed one of a kind collaboration with esteemed Canadian organizations, RHI and IC-IMPACTS, both well respected names in the international medical community, to create better avenues of providing treatment to thousands of spinal injury patients in India. It is well understood that avenues to provide spinal injuries care amongst people of India is limited.
This alliance provides us with the opportunities to share their knowledge and work collaboratively to address issues related to SCI which are not currently available. There is a huge focus towards innovation and research and the technologies thereby developed for people living in India is more likely to be of relevance in Canada and other countries,” said Major HPS Ahluwalia, Chairman, ISIC.
Signing a 1-year-long contract, the three renowned organizations have taken a pioneering initiative to co-host a competition that will to attract researchers in Indian and Canadian universities to work collaboratively in developing and commercializing promising and innovative technologies in the treatment and care of people living with SCI and associated secondary complications.

“We aim to achieve significant progress in building a stronger relationship between medical fraternity of not only these three organizations but alsoof the two countries that will benefit the world at a larger level. In India, the incidence of spinal injuries has been recorded as 20 per million people. The most common manner of injury is falls and accidents. In developed countries, the incidence of spinal injuries varies from 20 to 50 per million people. Spinal cord injury and the resultant paralysis has far-reaching effects on the over all well-being of a person, increasing the economic and emotional burden on the person who sustains SCI and potentially his or her entire support network. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and SCI are the most severe types of injuries; however, there is little evidence to address the difference between these two types of patients in terms of functional, and community outcomes. Even the WHO mentions that many of the consequences associated with spinal cord injury do not result from the condition itself, but from inadequate medical care and rehabilitation services, and from barriers in the physical, social and policy environments. Therefore, such initiatives are vital ways forward to find breakthroughs for better treatment”, said Dr. H S Chhabra, Medical Director and Chief of Spine Services, ISIC.

While ISIC is well known in India for providing specialized treatment and unique rehabilitation services for the management of all types of spinal ailments, RHI is a Canadian-based not-for-profit organization that drives innovation in spinal cord injury research and care. The collaboration has been facilitated by IC-IMPACTS, the first, and only, organization dedicated to the development of research collaborations between Canada and India.
To promote health research excellence in order to further advance emerging technologies that have the potential to benefit people with spinal cord injuries in India, Canada, and around the world, the competition will be supported by funding provided to RHI by the Western Economic Diversification Canada.

The most talkative pre Holi event in the capital of India

NewsPatrolling.com : Holi, the festival of colour is a spring festival celebrated in the Indian subcontinent, mostly among the Hindu communities. The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair broken relationships. It is also celebrated as a thanksgiving for a good harvest. It lasts for a night and a day, starting on the evening of the Full Moon day falling in the Vikram Samvat Hindu Calendar in the month of Phalguna, which falls somewhere between the end of February and the middle of March. Holi celebrations start on the night before Holi with a Holika Dahan where people gather, perform religious rituals in front of the bonfire, and pray that their internal evil be destroyed the way Holika, the sister of the demon king Hiranyakashipu, was killed in the fire. The next morning is celebrated as Rangwali Holi – a free-for-all festival of colours, where people smear each other with colours and drench each other. Water guns and water-filled balloons are also used to play and colour each other. Anyone and everyone is fair game, friend or stranger, rich or poor, man or woman, children and elders. The frolic and fight with colours occurs in the open streets, open parks, outside temples and buildings. Groups carry drums and other musical instruments, go from place to place, sing and dance.
